Problem Solving with Struggling Learners

Problem Solving with Struggling Learners: Using Noticing and Wondering to Start the Problem Solving Process

In December, Beth Lang, Math Content Specialist for MiBLSi, kicked off the MiBLSi MCOP Webinar Series with the topic of problem solving.

As part of their Problem of the Week series, The Math Forum @ Drexel published a short article, “Beginning to Problem Solve with “I Notice/I Wonder,” to address ways teachers can help struggling learners with problem solving. After looking at the article, watch Math Forum’s Annie Fetter in a 5 minute video, “I Notice I Wonder,” describe the transformative power of noticing and wondering in an interaction with a young child, and with a classroom of “the lowest 8th graders.” Annie will also mention Detroit!
